Boondock Saints 3: Legion is Coming!

It’s been announced today that there will be a third installment of the Boondock Saints franchise which is something their cult fans have been dying to hear. I know this because I’m one of them and have been following for some time. It was recently released via theflickeringmyth.com that the title of the movie will be Boondock Saints 3: Legion. This movie will probably be take place immediately following the events of the previous movie Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day after the MacManus brothers are captured and recuperating in prison. During the end of that movie, you see a group of protestors outside the prison, cheering for their release.

That’s what this next film will focus on most likely hence why the subtitle is Legion. This film will probably shine the spotlight on the followers of the Saints, more specifically a chosen few that truly believe in what the Saints stand for. Since there is no word yet on whether Norman Reedus or Sean Patrick Flanery will reprise their roles or the MacManus brothers will even be in the film, this is my assumption. Either way, I’ll still be waiting eagerly outside the theater on opening night because for me, this is my Star Wars.

For those who’ve seen the films, Boondock Saints started in 1999 under the helm of Troy Duffy and while it didn’t make its way to theaters, it still became a cult classic. It stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery known as Murphy and Conner MacManus, two religious Irish brothers who come to the believe that God has given them the mission to vanquish evil. So they take up a career as being vigilantes and start a killing spree from petty drug dealers to Russian and Italian mobsters but before killing them, giving a signature prayer before each execution. During their spree, they acquire the aid of Boston police as well as federal agents in the name of Paul Smecker played by the great Willem Dafoe.

It would be the only film for at a decade until the next installment would come out in theaters and while it only made 10 million, it still made a profit since it only cost 8 million to make. While critically it wasn’t the better of the two, it still brought out the cult following to the theaters so a third installment was assured. As far as a release date or whose coming back is concerned, nothing is set in stone but Troy Duffy decided now to assure fans that the third one is coming. My guess is we’ll probably have to wait at least another 2 years to finally see it but as long as it’s happening, I’m happy. For those that haven’t seen the first film, I highly recommend it.

Boondock Saints, it’s hands down one of my favorite movies of all time because of how it taps into the urge some people have to take justice into their own hands. If there’s one complaint that I know is in the air, at least in the United States, it’s that sometimes our justice system sucks. These days it seems that if you have enough money and power, you can get away with anything but don’t get me wrong. I’m glad people aren’t going around and shooting bad guys because without some kind of order, it would only cause mayhem but let us admit one thing, we all have our days. That’s why this movie appeals to me and to a large following that will surely be looking forward to the next film.

Truth and Acceptance

The search for Truth has always been Mankind's most important and most deadly exploration. People have died to answer questions that even with all our sciences and technology, we still can't find the solid truth that defines ours existence. We can go on and on about the advances we've made in the name of progression but at the end of the day, have we really gone anywhere? Yes, we have theories and mythologies but somewhere  along the line, people just rather believe anything and give up on finding out the truth. So that got me thinking, do we really want to know the truth and if we did figure it out, could we accept it?

Could we handle the possibility that everything we believe in as far as religion and what happens after we die  is in actuality a lie? Billions of lives have been slaughtered in the name of God and would that not be the biggest slap in the face to those poor souls that sacrificed themselves for their beliefs? If we found proof that all that really happens when you go is you just go to sleep for the final time and that's it, I'm pretty sure that would be the most terrifying truth we would have to accept. I'm just merely asking a question, I'm not trying to convert anyone or offer suggest any of my own personal feelings and views.

There are other truths that would be hard to accept as well such as what if there are aliens out there and they are watching us or are we possibly watching them? If they really exist then why keep it a mystery? There are millions of people that believe they're out there right now and they want to know. They've spent their lives looking for them whether as astronauts, astronomers or even Trekkies. People who struggle and look to the stars and try to find out if we truly are alone in the universe but science can only take us so far.

Some people use science to try to answer the truth but whose to say some mystical muse didn't give them the inspiration to find that truth? Did they discover the questions from actual thoughts in their heads or was some there some kind of force behind those thoughts? All science does is give us the tools to try and expand our existence but science can only take us so far as a species. The Big Bang theory and the theory of evolution are always disputed but at the end of the day, it all makes you ask yourself, what's your version of the truth?

One person's point of view can be completely different from another's, for example Edward Snowden. Edward Snowden is currently on the run from the United States for charges of espionage and treason for leaking national secrets. To some, he's a traitor and to others a hero because he's exposing a nation's "dirty" secrets. But lets be honest everyone, what nation doesn't have secrets that they don't want the rest of the world to know about? How many countries have skeletons in their closets? I'm willing to bet some countries have entire graveyards that would cause global outcry.

Everyone has a dirty secret they don't want out in the open but these nations will always keep in the dark and do everything to keep it from coming to the light. The constant reply is, "It's for the greater good." That we hide the truth because maybe the majority of people are childish or incompetent and they can't handle it. I laugh because as we grow up as children, part of a child's life is when a parent tells them of facts they need to know about life. Facts such as life isn't a movie and there are not always happy endings, the good guys don't always win, and even the silly facts like there really is no Santa Claus.

When I was growing up, I didn't want to hear that I was going to die but later on I realized I couldn't do anything about it so that's why I live as much as I can before I do. The point I'm trying to get is, we accept it and move on. We won't evolve and we never will progress as long as we keep people from accepting the truth. Yes, I understand that some people can't handle the truth because it's a bitter pill to swallow. Some people would rather live in a bubble but guess what my friends, we've survived thousands of years of evolution and guess what, we are still here.

We've survived the worst of what humanity can do to each other so why would the truth make the final nail in the coffin? All we've done to this point is make the Truth the most destructive weapon known to mankind and I don't see it that way. The Truth is a tool that should be used to help people understand facts of life so that we as a species can move on and progress. You don't solve any problems by hiding from the truth, that's what parents do to a child. The human race has been around long enough and it's time for us to grow up. We owe the people that have died to find those truths that much.

Madden 2015 Review

When it comes to professional football, there are certain names that stand out for specific reasons. Names like Walter Payton for his rushing career, Vince Lombardi for coaching and so on but the one name I’m thinking about is John Madden. After having a prosperous career coaching the Oakland Raiders to victory in Superbowl XI in 1976, he would go on to becoming a commentator and eventually being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He is also the name of the most popular football game in the world Madden. For over two decades, the award winning game franchise has virtually dominated the football genre only to be rivaled by their partner franchise NCAA Football. Recently the newest game was released and as far as the Playstation 4 version is concerned, it’s the best in years.

This was a vast improvement from its predecessor Madden 25, which celebrating the game’s 25 years in business but its celebration was more of an insult. The graphic were a bit let down for a new generation console and the gameplay was nothing impressive. This isn’t the case for the new installment Madden 15. The graphics are much better this year especially when it comes to the attention to detail in the players, the coaches on the sideline and even the commentators. However like every other game, the dialogue gets repetitive after a period of time but it’s easily skipped over.

I’ve played three games testing the environments clear skies, snow and raining settings, the detail to the rain and thunder was a nice improvement. The snow was especially cool considering you can see how high the snow is when you make footprints on the ground. Speaking of really cool, one of the newest features is the improved kicking and punting gameplay. The same technique is required, you pull back the right trigger to get ready and quickly push it back up when the desired power is reached. The new feature comes in when it shows three possibilities in the image of three color lines when kicking so you can give a more accurate punt or field goal.

The defensive gameplay has been upgraded this year as it’s the main theme hence the reason Seattle Seahawk’s defensive star Richard Sherman is on the cover. Let’s hope he’s not a victim of “The Madden Curse” which some believe if you grace the cover of a Madden game, you’ll be injured shortly after. The new gameplay makes it easier now to control defensive players and make plays with the new system. It’s a great advantage for gamers like me who have a huge handicap, I only play offense. When it’s time for me to defend, I just use the “Ask Madden” option and pick the selected option. Luckily there is a new mode that can help someone whether their handicap is offense or defense.

The mode called Skill Trainer teaches gamers exactly how to throw, tackle, defend, intercept, etc. This mode has been made specifically for people who may not understand the game as in depth as others. It’s a great plus for people like me who love football but don’t understand the dynamics of the sport. There is literally hours of available training to help novice gamers catch up to speed to veterans of the game so they don’t get crushed online. After your done training, the same favorite modes are in there such as careers and online gameplay so you can play with friends online or complete strangers.

The only problem I’ve encountered so far is connection problems but that’s probably because everyone is jumping online to trash talk and such. The beginning too was undesirable because when you start the game, it replays a moment from a game last year between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. If you’re a fan of either team then enjoy the beginning but I’m a Dallas Cowboy fan and I rather would’ve skipped it if I could. Once you get past it, the fun times await after setting up your favorite team and choosing your settings for gameplay. This game is awesome and I would encourage any fan to go out and get it now.

True Blood Series Finale

True Blood, one of HBO’s most popular series ended tonight and in typical HBO fashion, it left fans really pissed off with the final episode. Shortly after the show ended, fans that have been following the show since 2008 took to the media, voicing their displeasure over the much anticipated episode. The complaints range everywhere from the death of beloved characters to questions that people didn’t see the answer too. Don’t worry I’m not going to spoil anything for anyone but in my own personal opinion, it wasn’t that bad but then again it’s HBO. I’ve watched a lot of great shows come from the prestigious television station and there’s one consistency. When they end a show, there's always an uproar.

For those who don’t follow, True Blood is a show about a waitress that works at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere Louisiana. As quiet as things are, her world turns upside down when vampires suddenly “come out of the coffin” as they said. The whole world knows they exist and the only reason people aren’t scared is because they’ve found a new way to get blood without doing it the traditional way. That way is through an artificial liquid meant to give Vampires the nutrients they need to survive which is conveniently titled Tru Blood, following me so far?

The waitress known as Sookie is born with telepathy and is able to read everyone’s thoughts which makes her life hell for a while until she meets Bill. Bill is a vampire and to her surprise it turns out that she can’t read the minds of the undead so a relationship starts to form. This relationship would be tested through a series of enemies such as ancient vampires and werewolves, complications like Sookie’s past unraveling as the show progresses that explains her powers and what she really is, and people who don’t embrace the existence of vampires such as her idiot brother Jason and the close minded people of Louisiana.

In this final season everything comes to a boiling point after the previous season when there has been much death at the hands of vampires and the humans decide to fight back using biological weaponry against the vampires called Hep-V. After a brief moment of peace, the fighting starts again and during the events of the final season. We lose some of the beloved characters and see the arrival of characters that left during the series. I have to admit, if I could describe this season in one word, it would have to be “work.” I honestly felt that they just wrote this season up just to end it without putting any effort into it.

While the actors did a good job and the story was “ok” at best, it all felt too rushed. I can understand how some fans feel because like I said before, HBO has had a problem with ending some of their shows. I can remember when the series finale of OZ happened and fans were angry with how the prison just closed. Another big uproar was the infamous ending of The Sopranos when people didn’t even know how the show ended, it just went to a blank screen. I know HBO’s history with ending series so I gave True Blood a little slack, the ending was ok but it fits HBO’s reputation. True Blood was definitely a creative show at first and it was on a good run but after this season, I’m glad it’s over.

Sin City: A Victim of Sequels

The new Sin City film was a sequel that took 9 years to get off the ground since the success of the first one in 2005 and to the fans this will be A Damn to Kill For but to everyone else, it’s more like a movie to ignore. For the people whom may not know, Sin City is a movie adaption of a graphic novel created by famous artist/writer Frank Miller. The film is set as a modern day film noir and sparked the careers of Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson and starred an A-list cast of celebrities such as Bruce Willis, Clive Owens, and Mickey Rourke. The style in the way the movie progresses is 3 or more separate stories are told that end up intertwining at the end for an epic climax.

Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For followed the same formula in story telling but there are several issues encountered in this film. Some are not the fault of the film due to the passing of beloved actor Michael Clarke Duncan who played the villain Manute and the wonderful Brittney Murphy who played Shellie. Then there is Clive Owen who wouldn’t reprise his role as one of the main heroes, Dwight that’s role is filled by Josh Brolin. Also Jamie Chung has taken over the role of famous Asian killer Miho instead of actress Devon Aoki. Fans will catch on quick but people who are not familiar with the franchise will be lost.

There is one problem I believe fans may have a problem with and that’s the conflicting time frames in the film. If I may spoil one thing in the film, there seems to be two different time frames in the film. One being the present which takes place 4 years after the events of the first film that centers in on Jessica Alba’s character, Nancy as she plots her revenge against Governor Rourke. The second frame seems to be the origin of Dwight and Manute while introducing the newcomer Eva Green as the femme fatale Ava. There is another side story in the film that stars Joseph Gordon Lovett who plays a very interesting character with a tragic ending.

The main problem I have with the film is the appearance of Mickey Rourke who reprises his role as Sin City bad ass Marv. I could accept Marv’s appearance in the past sequence as did Jamie King’s when she reprises her role as Goldie but when I realized he was in the present sequence, there was a problem. For anyone who remembers, Marv was executed in the last movie after getting revenge for his beloved Goldie, so that asks the question, “Why is he still alive when he got fried?” I’ve never read the comics so maybe there’s a story that explains his resurrection and it’s being saved for a possible 3rd movie.

Overall however, fresh faces and familiar story telling weren’t enough to surpass the first film. I have to painfully give this film a 6 out of 10. While I sinfully enjoyed seeing Jessica Alba do a strip tease that will be remembered throughout cinema history and I liked the stories featured in the film, I don’t see this film being successful like the first Sin City. Usually films that take too long to make are never a good sign but I wanted to give this film a chance and I was entertained because I am a fan. However, anyone who doesn’t know anything about Sin City will probably walk out and want their money back.

Excerpt from The Merlin Show!

This is a comedy play about the King Arthur legend in the form of modern day talk shows. The reason behind this is because when I was growing up I always believed that the legend of King Arthur was something out of a modern day talk show. Think about it, a child from a king who manipulated a woman, who then rises to be king himself and marry a woman who would only cheat on him with his best friend. To make matters worse he would be manipulated into having intercourse with his half-sister and they would have a child of incest. If that doesn't sound like something that would make a great talk show topic then I don't know what does. With the hardest working wizard in talk shows with his trusty troll by his side, The Merlin Show is something good to read if you're looking for a break. Available on Online for print and eBooks.

Act Two
Scene One
(Curtain opens and the troll returns to his post with his microphone and King Arthur is in his seat with another chair next to him. Merlin comes out to join the crowd

[Merlin]
Well let’s hear now from the great woman behind the great man. Please welcome Lady Guinevere!
(Audience claps and cheers as she comes out waving to the crowd then dancing dirty to the men. King Arthur shakes his head and gives to thumbs down but Lady Guinevere waves him off and sits down)
Well Lady Guinevere you look amazing today! Welcome to the Merlin Show!

[Lady Guinevere]
Yeah well my husband said we need counseling in order to save our marriage. Does this include sex therapy because he needs it big time?
(Audience laughs)

[Merlin]
Um…No Lady Guinevere this isn’t that kind of show, I’m Merlin. I’m here to make money by mocking people because of their stupidity and I’m a wizard. You know the magician with a talk show?

[Lady Guinevere]
Oops I did it again. Oh wait you’re a magician? So you’re like really good at math right?

(Audience laughs and King Arthur lifts his hands up)

[King Arthur]
Well you can definitely see why I married her right?! Once she starts talking, all the magic in my sword just disappears.

[Lady Guinevere]
Oh so that’s why you’ve sucked recently!
(Audience laughs)
For a while I thought you were sleeping around with another woman.

(They stare at each other as King Arthur smiles and Lady Guinevere gets it so stands and takes off her ear rings)
Oh hell no! You’ve been two timing me!

[King Arthur]
Yeah well why not? I know you and Lancelot!
(The audience boos Lady Guinevere and she sits down)

[Lady Guinevere]
Oh shut up! Shut up! How do you know about us? We haven’t told anybody.

[King Arthur]
I know all about it Guinevere! I leave for 11 months and when I come back I heard everything from everyone! You two did it in our bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dungeon, throne room and even the executioner’s guillotine. I meant that is some sick twisted shit, who does that?

[Lady Guinevere]
Well the hangman wouldn’t let us use his rope!
(Audience laughs)

[Troll]

(Using a deep voice) She’s a hoe!

[Lady Guinevere]

Yeah well you’re short! And nobody here should judge me.

[Merlin]

But why did this happen? Why have an affair with Lancelot?

[Lady Guinevere]

Because he puts the Lance in Lancelot, hello! Besides this wouldn’t have happened if Arthur just had to go out and get some stupid cup made by some carpenter. He couldn’t have been anyone special because I heard he was eventually crucified by the Romans.

(King Arthur lowers his head and shakes. Audience laughs)

Also Lancelot gives great…oops I did it again, I meant to say he has a great head between his… damn it. He’s a really smart guy.

[Troll]

You’re a natural blonde aren’t you? King Arthur was right, you be better if you were beheaded.

(King Arthur claps and Lady Guinevere stands again and points to the troll)

[Lady Guinevere]

Yeah well you would look better if you were tall!

[Troll]

Oh yeah that hurt.

[Merlin]

Ok now let’s get back on track here.

(Lady Guinevere sits back down)

King Arthur. Who have you’ve been sleeping with behind Lady Guinevere’s back? The maids, the cooks, or…

[Lady Guinevere]

I bet it’s with that lady who lives in the lake! Considering how wet she always is, you know she has something.

[King Arthur]

No it’s not her…unfortunately.

(Lady Guinevere looks at him)

[Lady Guinevere]

Who?!

[King Arthur]

My half-sister, Morgan Le Fey!

(Audience boos)

[Lady Guinevere]

OMG! You sick freaks!

[Troll]

You shouldn’t talk.

[Lady Guinevere]

Shut up! SMH!

[Merlin]

Um…Lady Guinevere. Cell phones haven’t been invented yet, can we please speak full words please.

[Lady Guinevere]

What’s a cell phone?

[Troll]

Something you would use to send naked pictures of yourself to everybody.

[Lady Guinevere]

At least I have a body!

[Troll]

That was good. You should be an insult comic to deaf people.

Let Me Introduce Myself

My Closet
Like the phantom of the opera,
I was a misunderstood monster.
Not scarred in the face by fire
but with a body of excess fat.

The demons kept hurting my soul.
They tortured me with insults.
Boys threw stuff at me.
Girls called me a freak.

I fought back with hatred and fists.
Boys lost teeth and girls lost hair.
My life was becoming a sad fable.
Dante would run in fear of my inferno.

So, I ran into my closet and dreamed
in such a small hot space.
I lived in a new world with sunlight and cool breezes.
But the breeze was just hanging clothes running across my face.

Silence.
That was my greatest ally to focus on my dreams.
There was nobody else that could distract me
when I was in that closet.

The price for paradise was cheap --
my heart and my sanity.
I had no use for those things anyway.
I wasn’t happy when I had them.

Time went by fast when I was in the closet
and slow when I was out.
For 6 long hours I’d be in hell.
I would cut off my right arm
to hear that final ring.

For years I was in my closet,
praying to God for mercy.
Finally my parents found me
and dragged me out of my closet.

My parents were scared
to see their baby boy look so cold.
They couldn’t understand this boy who is so sweet
look so morose and so angry.
I would try to get back in my closet,
But they would keep me out,
kicking and swinging.

Later, I was sent to see someone.
I felt like a wounded animal backed into a corner --
scared, confused, and ready to fight to the death.
The doctor looked at me with such pity.

I would say, “Go to hell.
How could you blame me for what I’ve done?
If you’d lived my life you would understand.
For some people, dreams are better than reality.”

I met others who had my problem,
who had scars of their own
and were outcasts of society for different reasons.
Some cut their arms, some were loved too much by their parents.
There was even one a boy who wanted to be 6 feet under.

Even though they opened their arms to me,
I pushed them away.
My anger made me numb from the heart down.
I was the boy with a permanent frown.

But something happened one night.
Somebody got their wish.
That boy was going 6 feet under
because he purposely drowned in his toilet.

When I saw him covered in sheets,
I realized where my anger was going to take me.
So, I decided that it was time for me to go home.
I told the doctor everything he wanted to know.
I met the requirements and became healthy again.

After months of treatment,
I was allowed to live again.
I moved away from my demons and my torture.
I now have a new home and a new closet.

But I don’t use it.
I put all my clothes in drawers
and boxes in the garage.
Now, I feel the warmth of a real sun
and the smooth breeze on my face.

I still have my anger,
but I keep it under control.
I have friends now and a girlfriend.
Will it last? I really don’t know.

But when I wake up in the morning
and I look at my life today,
I can actually see that my prayer was answered.
I am free from my torment and my closet.
I have been granted my mercy.

A Fallen Angel

A Fallen Angel
An angel is falling from the sky.
She is in a vortex, helplessly
going down a downward spiral,
screaming for help in mid air.

She looks so pure and innocent.
She is an angel, but she can’t fly.
And, as I look with a hawk’s eye, I see
her wings are broken.

I wonder why she has been sent to this realm,
a realm of my vision,
an endless forest were disruption meets oblivion
and lost souls meet renaissance.
She lands in the lake of my forest.

She is 5 foot 2 and about 130 pounds,
But, like a small stone, makes no splash,
just ripples in the water.
Yet, the impact sounds like that of an atom bomb.

I get on my stallion, the eternal mustang,
and ride to the lake where I see her
floating on her back like a flower.
I pull her out and go back to my cabin in the forest.

I put her in my bedroom
because there is no other.
I sleep in front of the fireplace
and wonder where to start.

The next day, she wakes up,
and I come in with breakfast.
She is startled, but I calm her down.
I tell her that I am a friend.

“I am one who cares for all.
I give comfort and shelter to those in need.
You may simple call me friend
because that’s all I’ll ever be.”
She eats the eggs I’ve made for her and
drinks the water that I’ve purified.

After a while, I finally ask her,
“Angel, why did you fall from the sky?”

She says, “I lost my way.
I just got bored with eternity,
so I wanted to leave.
I got my wish, and now I have nothing.
That’s why I guess I’m here,
to be forgotten.”

I say to her, “He doesn’t forget, and he does forgive.
Somebody so beautiful should express happiness, not fear.
In time, you will learn to smile again
and never again feel sorrow.”

With her wings wrapped and her body healed,
she begins to live with me here in the forest.
We take walks in the morning to see the sunrise and
have dinners in the front window of the cabin to see the sunset.

I cook her all my favorite recipes
from lasagna to baked ziti.
But when we get to the desert --
freshly made cherry pie -- her favorite.

Weeks after her arrival, she asks me,
“Why are you here?”

I tell her the truth.
“I was once lost like you were.
I fell just as you did, but found my way.
But unlike me, you still have a choice.”

She asks, “What kind of choice?”
I say, “You’ll know it when you feel it.”
She gets confused, but, months later,
confusion turns into compassion.

Many times, she welcomed me to bed with her.
Every time I declined, not because of un-attraction.
It was just going to make it easier on me in the end
because I knew the day was approaching.

A year has passed. Her wings are healed.

She flaps them up and down
and gets herself off the floor.
I smile at her success, but she can see
my invisible frown.

The time has come, and I say, “Let’s go to the lake.”
But when we go, there is no lake,
just an open field with a ray of light in the middle.
She sees now the choice that must be made.

Leave or stay?

There is no turning back.
But, before she makes the choice,
she asks me with a heart-broken voice,
“Why did you stay?”

I say, “I wasn’t the first.
I knew I wasn’t going to be the last.
I made the choice to stay
and help other angels like you and I.”

She asks, “What if I stay with you?

Help other angels by your side?
I can’t image eternity alone.
I don’t want that to be your fate.”
I say, “That’s not your choice to make.

This realm is of my vision.
This is my eternity, and this is how I choose to spend it.
If you decide to stay, I will be the one that goes.
Either way, one of us is leaving, and it’s going to be you.”

She says, “How do you know?”

I say, “Because you’ve learned again what’s most important.
Eternity is what you make of it.

This is mine, and I do it with pride.
Now you can go and find something to take pride in.”
Angel says, “I will miss you.
You gave me back so much.”

I say, “You’re welcome.
That complement is why I do this.

Now, it’s time to fly.”
She hugs and kisses me goodbye
then slowly moving towards the light,
never taking her eyes off me.
With new wings, she heads back to paradise.

As she disappears into the light,
I say, “Lord,
your child has returned to you.
My love and wishes go with you angel.”

I turn back and head for my cabin.
My energy is now spent.
My body is weak.
My head is light as a feather.

I now go to bed and sleep
until the next is sent.
